Just an area for what I’m doing on an everyday basis.

Political Thoughts

I didn’t do too much this weekend.  I did get some book keeping done and the normal house work.

We made sure to catch the debates Saturday.  It was interesting.  Unfortunately Oregon is closed primary state and we really don’t like to register with anyone party, I’m down as unaffiliated.    So I’m trying to decide (if it isn’t too late) if I want to change my registration to be able to vote in the primary.

I never had to register with a party, Indiana is an open primary.  You could be a registered Dem and ask for the Rep ticket to vote…….and considering that Indiana is mostly a red state with very few Dem running, we’ve done that a few times just to vote against some really horrible people.

I did come across that they are putting the option of an open primary on November’s ballot, so that is cool.  I just hope that it succeeds.  I hate having to be pegged, I prefer to vote for the person not the party……..even though in this climate I’m very anti-GOP with this administration.

Here was an interesting article that I found about trying to run a campaign totally different from the past :  Inside Obama’s Dream Machine

I would love to see McCain win over the other GOP candidates.   There is a lot of issues that I don’t agree with on him……..prochoice being the main one, but I love that he is not the rest of the GOPers even though he tried.  In some ways reminds me of Bob Dole years ago.  He is more of true Republican then the rest are and if the Dems blew it, I don’t think I would feel so defeated or screwed like I did when Bush the moron got reelected.

When it comes to the Dems……I’m not sure who I want, right now I guess the one that beats the GOP……..Harold and I have discussed that an Obama/Edwards ticket would be great.

We just watched a show on Oregon’s PBS on Andrew Jackson……..that was a complicated man. Did some good…..helped to change the system where the everyday man had more of say in the election, but did so much damage at the same time…….Trail of Tears…..

Just Working

My brain is mush. I’ve been working with accounting all day……so I’m a little out of it.

I had done quite a bit on the 1st and the 2nd, but still was able to take timeout to do some reading, today there was no way.

I have some big projects for the next few weeks to handle. Trying to get my mind around it.

Well, today did not start out very good. The heat has gone out in our truck and with spending the last few years in Florida, never had to use it to actually test it when the our mechanic stated that we may have an issue. So I took it in yesterday to have it looked at and found that we needed a new heater core. So they ordered, I made an appointment for next Monday and they reversed the hoses to give us temp heat. Harold drove it in to Portland yesterday and was half way there today when it started to over heat. Obviously he turned back, I called the mechanic and he took it in. Found out that the hose rotted out, at about 100k miles on it, we aren’t surprise. So we left the truck there so they can do the heater core tomorrow instead of Monday. I can’t wait until it is done, it would be one less worry for awhile.

Once we got that all settled, Harold went on into the city and I went to work.

Spent the day jumping on and off of the elliciple (sp) machine, when I felt that I was sitting too long. Felt good, even though I couldn’t handle staying long. I don’t understand how I can walk around a hilly neighborhood at a nice pace for 45-60min and 5-10min on the machine feels worst when it comes to breath. I’m total wacked……..very sad. I’m going to try (please keep your fingers crossed for me) to a constant time in the morning and then jump on and off all day. I really need it.

Here are some stories that caught my eye:

Texas Man Freed After 26 Years in Prison

**I’m a firm believer in making rapists pay for their crimes, I have no sympathy for them……it is a woman’s nightmare. But if we are going to put someone in jail for that horrible crime, make sure that it was the right guy! It is horrible that an innocent man paid for something that he did not do and lost a huge portion of his life. I just hope that he is able to get part of his life back.

Evolution: “Overwhelming and Compelling”

**I love this. I can’t understand the people that seem to think that dinosaurs existed only 5000 years ago! And that humans lived with them…….then they wonder why other countries are beating us in the areas of science.

Happy New Years!!!

I hope everyone had a good and safe New Years.

We spent is watching football and chilling out. Watched the replay from the ABC’s Dick Clark’s in NY.

I got quite a bit of things caught up by Saturday. So on Sunday & Monday I read 1776 by David McCullough finally between football games. I’ve had that book for a couple of years, just never got around to reading it. I just started America’s Women : 400 Years of Dolls, Drudges, Helpmates, and Heroines by Gail Collins………kind of scary when it gets into woman’s health, trying to get the stomach to go through it….But there is nothing like reading up on my history. I really need to figure out which book to get on Thomas Jefferson.

Today was my intense work day. I got everything done that I can without the banks being open. Even had time to work on some of our personal/other business stuff in my new quickbooks set up. I just hope I can make it work like I want it to.

I have to take the truck in tomorrow to get the heater checked out. I’m really hoping that it isn’t something big, because I really don’t want to be there all day.

We were surfing and came across this scene from Boston Legal :

Boy does he summed it up it well.I’ve always wanted to watch this show, but never remember when it is on. It may be something that I need to get on DVD. I love the actors/actresses in it, so I know I would really enjoy it. I don’t like having my time being controlled by programs, except by football.

Beautiful Inn

Harold found this article while news surfing on the paper that we use to get while in Indiana:

17 trees center of attention for a day in 125-year-old inn

This is where we got married over 10yrs ago.  Dick is a friend of Harold’s and every time Harold would go over and visit Dick would put him to work in helping him with some project in the inn.

Here is the home page for it : The Loeb House Inn

Busy, Busy

Today was catch up.  I had some accounting that I need to get done, both business and personal wise.

But spent a good portion of my day taking down the tree.  I love my tree with all the lights and glittery ornaments, but as soon as my birthday is over I need to put it away.  It took me a little bit longer then usual, I was reorganizing my packing of stuff and added a new container to the mix.  So I now have 4 storage containers of xmas stuff, not including the tree.  =)

I watched my new Bon Jovi dvd, of course they were great. =)

Looks as if we need a toaster, one side of it is only toasting the outer parts of the bread…..not good.

I did go through our fire file box.  I had a ton of old insurance policy statements that need to be deposed of.  I added the stuff to the pile of things that I cleaned out from our storage files that are going to be shredded.  It is going to take forever to shred, but needs to be done.

I also got most of my messages caught up. But I’m going to finish them off tomorrow.  I like having a clean email inbox.  =)

I’m going to put up our load of laundry from yesterday and head on to bed.  I have a ton of stuff to do tomorrow and I need my sleep for that.  =)
