Category Archives: Everyday Stuff

Just an area for what I’m doing on an everyday basis.

Noisy Neighbors

Nothing like having a perfect hot day for some pool time and you hear your neighbors music vibrating through your walls and over your TV! Talk about putting a kink in your day and pissing you off.

So I went for a bike ride, found out what the addy was and called the police to see if there was a noise ordnance and if I could report anonymously, since we don’t want problems.

Luckily I could report it and I did. The police said it was a heavy call day but they would stop by even if took awhile. It is Saturday, so I know that they have more important things so no problem.

I’m wondering if the police got to them already or the neighbors got a clue (doubtful) because they turned it down.

It is a beautiful day and I have no problem with them enjoying their music, hell I do the same thing. But damn it! Be considerate of your neighbors, they don’t want to hear your shit. I know they don’t want to hear my shit and I try very hard not to disturb my neighbors. If I have music on, I make sure the sound doesn’t go too far.

I know I must have been raised better then most people, cuz some of my earliest memories was for getting in trouble for walking heavy when we lived about people in apartments. My folks had no problem putting a hand to my ass for excessive noise that would disturb our neighbors. It was called being considerate and folks don’t seem to have that anymore.

What happen to the golden rule?!?

“Do onto others, as you wish to have onto you”

I remember that being over the alphabet and chalk board in 2nd grade and it some thing that I try hard to live by.

Maybe I’m just old and cranky, either way….screw it…..I’m jumping in my pool and try to enjoy my weekend off. =)

Nothing much going on here

So that is the reason for my lack of updates. Weather has been good for the most part, high 80’s low 90’s but the wind is still coming from the East so we are still covered with dust and now the odor of sewage since they are working on the sewage pipes at the construction site. Joy…

Still no word on if we have to move or not, I spoke to the landlord last week and they was meeting with the home owners today or tomorrow to discus it so I will call Monday or Tuesday if I have not heard from them. He seems to think living on a month to month lease is a great thing. I see it as what happens when we are in Seattle for 10 days and when we get back we have 20 days to pack, find a new place and move.

I estimated it would be $10,000 at least to have a moving company move us to Washington/Oregon and at least $5000 to $8000 to do it ourselves which the idea fills me with dread, but if I have to and that is the only way we can move to where we want to be, then we will do what we will have to do.

The idea is to rent a large Uhaul and tow our truck while Pauline drives a rented RV behind me with the cats. The main reason for this is, it is about 3500 miles from here to Seattle, at 65 MPH at 12 hours that’s about 780 miles which if we could keep up that pace would take us at least 4.5 days to drive it, add all the stops we will be making since Pauline is not the best traveler and with 2 cats who HATE cars it would be best on them and us if we could let them have room to roam and we could also do some small site seeing on the way and not have to worry about finding a hotel with space to park a 26’moving van and trailer like I had the last time when I drove to FL.

The hotel I had booked was too packed to pull in the parking lot so I had to leave it and find another hotel which turned out for the best since it was in a BAD part of Columbia SC. Which really didn’t matter since the cats would not let me get any sleep when we did get a hotel 40 miles later and after 4 hours of laying there I packed back up and hit the road and eventually pulled off into a rest stop and cat napped in a jam packed Uhaul cab with 3 cats a bright sun and crappy A/C.

So the idea of knowing we would have room to chill, a bed, a shower of any sort and a place to eat as well as more room for the cats is a good thing. Of course the RV will cost about $2500 not including gas which I’m sure will push it up over $3500 so we are back at the $10,000 area to move.

Yep, that is a lot of money, but if all goes well, we should be able to pull it off, if not we will of course have to stay here until we do. If that isn’t motivation then I don’t know what is.

I’ve never been one to “settle down” and it does bother me that I never seem “happy” with where I live, but I am hoping that as I grow older I will feel more comfortable with where I am and actually get a social life, maybe that is the secret?

TV Shows

If you don’t watch Scrubs, you really should. It reminds me of MASH in that it is funny while it is giving you some different prespectives on life. I love all the characters and what they have done with them. And unlike some of the other shows I’ve watched, they have yet to screw it up…………think West Wing the last few years….gggrrr…there is so much potential.

We are also addicted to LOST and The Daily Show (I love John Stewart…….funny as hell).

We don’t watch that much TV. We watch sports, news and a few shows…….otherwise we like to shut it off and listen to music or enjoy some silence.

Enough of my babble, time to head to bed. I have an early day tomorrow.

The Park & Beach

Early last month we spent part of my day off at the park and then the beach. Here are some of the pics : Day @ the Park & Day @ the Park & Beach Pt 2

Catch Up Time

Already, time to catch everyone up.

Last time I had posted I was telling you happened on Thursday (my supposedly day off) with me going into work…..icks. =) No problem, it worked out having Friday off.

We did spend more time doing errands then I wanted to do, that is for sure.

We also made time to stop a Veterans Reunion. They had what is called “The Moving Wall”, a replica of the ‘Nam Veteran Wall in DC. It is one of the largest gathering of Vets in the nation. We didn’t go last year, partly cuz we didn’t know until too late and partly cuz I didn’t know I if I could handle it. I get emotional during a commercial…..

Considering my father, husband, and my late grandfather are Vets, things like that have my interest. I have a deeper interest in ‘Nam since my dad is a Vet from that war and I feel it gives me a better understanding of what he had gone through. It is not something that he talks about and I don’t feel it is something that I could really ask about. Dad never brought his work home with him while he was in the Army. It wasn’t until after he retired that I finally learned and understood some of the things that he did.

It was kind of weird to see some of the stuff I grew up out on display. Like type of hat dad wore in ‘Nam, I have it…………I have one of his soldier’s manuals.

Here is the pics we took & some commentary about it from Harold :

Images 074.jpg and 076.jpg are the “jets” of the boat; they did not use propellers and were one of the first “Jet Skis”.

Image 075.jpg is the boats numbers:

31 = Length in feet
RP = River Patrol
73= Year it was made
35 = Number made that year

And no this boat was not in Vietnam but it is the same model of ones that were being used there

Images 085.jpg to 116.jpg are of the War Dog Memorial, the tent was full of all the dogs that died in Vietnam.

The primary dog for the US military was Siberian Huskies until 1942 when it was “switched” to German Shepard’s. (Odd timing) The Vet did not know what this was, but said there were Huskies and Labs in Vietnam and today. This dog is Shadow, daughter of Buck who died 5 weeks ago and has his own book.

Image 117.jpg to 120.jpg is the Puerto Rican tribute. (Pauline here, I thought that was really cool on the use of their culture for a tribute)

Image 121.jpg is two assholes who were driving in a crowded area MUCH faster then they needed to.

The images of the Wall speak for themselves.

After we got back, I did jump in the pool and enjoy what time I had left for it. =)

Then it was on to attack setting up my new vaio. I was so proud of myself; I figured out through hidden files how to transfer my settings from one notebook to other without wasting tons of time on set up. So all I needed was a new keyboard with a usb for my desk setup.

Well Saturday, I had to go in for a store meeting @ 7am even though I didn’t have to work until later that afternoon. So after the meeting I headed over to the local office supply store and picked me up the keyboard (I get the split ones). Go to use it on my new perfectly set up vaio……….and it doesn’t work! I was so disappointed. Well, I got to sony support chat tried several things but had to stop to head into work. Harold later calls me and tells me that some how the usb drivers weren’t working so sony says we have to reformat. =(

I don’t know if we did something, so did it accidentally come that way?

So guess what my husband was doing all day for me Saturday? Not only did he reformat my notebook, he got nearly every single program set up. He was so sweet to do that. =) So the last 2 days before heading into work, I’ve been working on getting my setting done. I will say with what I learned the 1st time; it made it hell lot easier and a lot quicker. So now, all I need to do is go through everything so I have it backed up and then I can clean out my old notebook and get it set up for kids this summer and then for my dad.

Today was recovery from working this weekend (which was a bitch I may add). We did some housework, some emails, and then I did some errands. It is amazing how much time is lost on errands. =( If I had my way I would not have left the house, but some things can’t wait. I did get some pool and sun time in. No way near the amount that I would like.

But I have hope for this weekend. =) It is my one weekend off a month. And we are going to get the spare bedroom ready for my folks and the kids and then I’m going to get some sun time. =)
