Just an area for what I’m doing on an everyday basis.

Yosemite National Park

While we were staying at Atwater, CA we drove out to Yosemite National Park. It was a beautiful day and so stunning. Our pictures do not do it justice.

Ackbar gets a new tire

Today is much better then yesterday.

We took Ackbar to “Garza Tire and Wheel” in Winton, CA and about 90 minutes later we had a new tire and they even repaired the exhaust pipe damage.

Good people, friendly, professional and fast.

$472 got us a new tire, fixed exhaust pipe’s and labor.

Castle Air Museum – RV Park – Atwater, CA

The RV park is located next door to the museum.

4001 Hospital Rd Atwater, CA

If you are concerned with “looks” of the park this is not the place for you.

If you love Air Craft, being close to three National Park’s, and have no issue parking in a parking lot (6 sites have full hookups) this is a perfect place. The host have been here for 16+ years. They are friendly and helpful.

We have also seen and heard MANY bird’s yesterday and last night, it was wonderful to just listen to them. Currently it’s too windy to hear much but the wind and the winds are causing a dust storm out there and according to the weather it will be like this for 2 more days, so we will stay 4 nights instead of the planned 3 so we can visit the museum when the wind dies out.

They have a B-36!!! I can see it from my window! SOOOO CLOSE TO ME!

We are about 90 mins from Yosemite National Park which we will see tomorrow. (SO EXCITED!)

Location wise, this is in a great area for a home base. While we will go to the local sports bar tonight for the NCAA Final’s I am not seeing much else in the local area, but again, it would be a perfect home base as it is 2 hours or less drive from three National Parks.

It was quite last night. We saw stars. We heard a owl. We heard birds singing last night and this morning. We have a good parking spot. We have met many nice people.

What else is there?

A Blow Out Kind of Day

It has been a rough day overall. The kind that you have being dreading that was going to happen, did. So close to our destination and then what sounded like an explosion….we had a blow out.

An inside tire on a Sunday…..blah….what the heck is AAA for if there isn’t anyone around to help? So many calls, none of it helped. But at least we are here and are safe. Going to have to deal with it first thing tomorrow.

Buying used and such, you expect things to happen….but is it too much to ask to at least spread it out some?

A 6 hr 39 min trip according to google, we added about 90 more minutes to our estimate because it is an RV with a tow and going over mountains….yeah, you can’t go as fast as other vehicles. With the blow out we got here about 4:48 after hitting the road at 05:45 this morning.

We are suppose to do another 6hr 38min day when we leave here in a few days….I don’t think so. That is way too much especially with going through high population areas. I’m going to divide that up. I’ll be looking into that once I finish this up.

We are here at the very small RV park of the Castle Air Museum, in Atwater, CA. That was created on the Air Force Base that was closed in the ’90s.

I’ll save my first impressions and comments about the RV park part for when we take pictures and post about it.

For the overall feel, if you ever lived on a military post/base….no matter which branch….this still feels like a military post to me. There is obvious stuff like the fuselages they have in a field or the old ordnance they have for collecting dump fees….which bring back MAJOR flashbacks for me, since I grew up on an ordnance post. But even without all that, it still smells/feels like the military to me. I don’t know how to explain it….maybe it is just the Army brat in me that misses it so much.

One of the few positives today, really got to see the beautiful hills coming out of Oregon and a good view of Mt Shasta coming into California. =)
