Just an area for what I’m doing on an everyday basis.

Sunday morning rambling…

Zion National Park

Not too much to say, we slept in as we usually do on weekends, well I should say we slept in as much as we can with 3 cats and neighbors who think its normal to talk/yell outside at 6:00 am which Im sure is ok since no one ever sleeps past 5:30 am right? Anyway its nice to have a iPhone so we can stay in bed and surf the net as we normally do when we get out of bed, so I feel like I am multi tasking.

Today we are just doing our normal Sunday routine, we hit Starbucks and grabbed some much needed caffeine and breakfast sandwich’s that are way over priced but still more convenient than making something on our own.

I really like where we live, but we really need a diner within walking distance, some place that we can get a decent breakfast and caffeine without having to drive to get it. If we ever move into/closer to Portland this would be the main reason, we both love the idea of walking a few blocks to get a bite to eat and maybe, dare I say, socialize with the commoners.

Right now we are just watching our Sunday talk shows (“Meet the Press” and “This Week”) as we surf the internets of tubes.

We made yet another trip to REI Friday night and spent yet more $ getting yet more crap for camping/hiking which we will be making our first trip in 2 weeks to the Redwoods National Park in the Northern California coast.

We get to go back to REI this week since they screwed up our bill and gave us the 20% discount on the cheap item and not the expensive item like they was suppose to do, and I need to get a $8 adapter that I read online that I didn’t need, but actually do need, so that is another 20-30 min drive there and back that I am looking forward to.

We leave here on a Monday and either will come back on Wednesday or Friday, all depending on the weather and the mood. We will stay 2 nights in California and the idea is to drive back to Portland via the 101 which I am told is the greatest drive ever.

Our main reason to go camping is to celebrate what will be our 12th anniversary but it will be 6 days early since, back in 1997 we didnt think about the fact that our wedding date is on a holiday weekend which hindsite is the worse thing ever, you can never go anywhere without a million people all over, so this year we are going after the holiday on a Monday so hopefully everyone will be back to work.

Last year we drove to Seaside and Cannon Beach and we drove to Astoria and back to Portland via the Washington side of the Columbia river, this year we will drive the Oregon side of the Columbia. Unless of course the weather hates us and/or we want to get home sooner than later, we are pretty much just taking this as we go.

Today we will do another test run with the tent and go over our gear once again to make sure we have everything we need or think we need.

The kittens will be staying home for at least 2 days on their own and as much as 4 days which will be the longest amount of time of being alone ever for them. Alexis has been left (with Reggie) as long as a week on their own and she didn’t really seem to care too much. The wonder twins will be a different story since they are so incredibly spoiled and demanding.

Yesterday we planted yet more plants and cleaned up the backyard some more but of course we have 1 large yard waste bin that is completely full so it will be at least another week before we can finish getting rid of that huge pile of yard waste that has been rotting back there for at least 5 years since the owner didn’t seem to want to improve anything she has.

Catching Up

Well, let me think of what I’ve been up to…..working…lol  No surprise.

I had payroll to do and that was enough.  I did try to start the prep for it a few days earlier and that was a huge help.  I actually wasn’t as stressed to the wire as normal. I’m going to try to make a better habit of that.  It gave me a good breather before I had to start ordering everything.

The next day, I had to take care of the other 2 depts.  By the end of Friday, my brain was dead, so I really didn’t get to the books until Sunday.

I have taken time here and there to play with my phone and ipod.  I found some songs that I can trim down for ringtones.  So that is my next project for that.  But I did find an app for icq and wordpress.  It will be nice that when we travel, that when I just want to surf for news or such, that I don’t have to haul out my laptop.

I did get some messages taken care of, which has been

I have been doing good at the gym, not as good as I want, but still good.  I got up 3.49mile in 30….not bad.  I’m up to 89# on the adobnimal machine, my lower abs are sore after doing my floor abs.  My thighs have been sore and I hope to be able to keep it going.  Looking forward to doing some outside work this weekend to enforce it.

It has been raining for about a week now.  We have had 2.09inches so far this month and the normal is .48inches by this time.  We are suppose to have a dry spell until Sunday night.  We have been getting sunshine peeking in on and off, especially in the evening.  Which makes you crave more sunshine.  But I will say, I’ve never lived in a area that gets so much hail.  It is small, but like today all of the sudden after some sun, we got hit with a bunch of small hail that left the neighbor’s roof steaming afterwards with the temperature difference.  It is kind of wacky.

This weekend we hope to be able to get rid of the last pile of yard waste.  We need to get more bird seed and a few more feeders (the squirrels broke the other 2) eventually.  I’ve been enjoying watching the birds coming by.  We’ve had a Scrub Blue Jay, Gold Finch, House Sparrow and a few hummingbirds.  I had a hummingbird startle me on our balcony the other day….I heard this motorized sounding noise and look up and see a hummingbird going for our fushias.  =)

Saw the final espidoe of Scrubs last night.  This wasn’t their best season, didn’t start out the strongest, but it ended very well.  I’m really going to miss it, but I hope they don’t try and bring it back.  It is time for it to end.  I really, really loved it when they lined the hallway with past patients and characters and then JD had images of what his future might hold.  Of course, him getting Dr Cox to say what he felt for him was classic.   Just need to get this season on DVD and it looks like Boston Legal’s final season was released this week….need to pick that up while it is still on sale.

iPhone Test

Just test my wordpress application on my phone. =} This is cool.

Busy News Day

I thought I would be totally bored with all the swine flu freak outs.  Yes, I know that swine flu is serious, but the way they are going on they are panicing and overstating it.  More people die from the regular flu on yearly basis, don’t hear anything about that. (Regular flu has killed thousands since January)

I am very surprised that Spector went dem.  I actually thought he would go independent.  I don’t always agree with him (Anita Hill, employee check card….etc), but I respected that fact that he was moderate rep, not some right wing nut job and that he was his own man on issues.  I’m independent with liberal leanings, but I’m not a dem and know that there are good reps out there.  So I was hoping that he would be able to bring his party back around from the extremism that it has become.  All parties need checks and balances within reason.

But I don’t get the commentators with the filibuster proof vote that the dems may get.  That is totally not true.  Spector is no yes man and they will have to make concessions to get his vote as they did when he was rep.  So he went from a moderate rep to a conservative dem.

His leaving the GOP is reflection of how bad that party has gotten.  His statement at his press conference was a critique of what is wrong with the party and all the moderates it has drum out.  Until they can fix that, they will in the wild for awhile.  This article fully shows the divide and unreasonable expectations that the GOP has become  :  http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/04/28/specter-defection-highlights-gop-divide-in-south-carolina/

I posted more news stories in my tweets.  =)  So you know what I’ve been following.

I found a few more apps for my iphone through our friends’ suggestions.  Those have been fun.  I do need to fully go through them to make sure that I don’t have a bunch of space wasters.

New Toys

Well, we have been playing with our new iphones. Hubby has really been enjoying his. He is a fidgety person anyway, so the things that you can do with them is great for him.

When we went and got them, I still wasn’t sure if I really wanted one.  I was leaning more to a phone with a qwerty keypad, because those would be great for texting when it comes to my nails.  The iphone, not so easy.  But in the end I got the iphone because there is so much more that you can do with them, all the apps that you can get.  Doesn’t help that when it comes to electronics, I’m kind of like a guy, always wanting newer and more bells and whistles, even if I don’t use them all……..lol

I don’t care for that fact that to make a ringtone, that they have to be songs purchased through itunes and then you pay to cut the part that you want and then there are only certain songs that are allowed for being made into a ringtone.  That is a scam.  I have over 9,000 songs that I have purchased by buying the cds that I should be able to use.  So that annoys me.

I really like the gps that comes with it….the google earth is freaky when it zooms in on your position.  The camera is better they I expected, although a flash would help.  The contact list is kind of cool, even though I had to spend a bit of time cleaning it up since it had things imported from old phone and then doubled by my outlook.  I think I finally got it under control.

It is weird not to have sprint anymore, other then a big bill……lol  I really did like our katana phones, now I need to figure out what to do with them.  I know that shelter use to take them for the 911 function and there are programs out there for donating for GIs….just need to find a legit one.

I like that they have rollover minutes, but I don’t like that they don’t give you an option to start your nights/weekend minutes earlier.  With sprint, you just paid 5-10 each line and it increased it to 7pm, which is great when you live on the west coast and your family is in NY time zone.  So I’m pretty stuck calling on the weekends for any really lengthy conversations.  Plan wise, I do prefer verizon’s, but they don’t have the iphones.  =(

We were planning on getting them next month, but due to sprint teeing us off, got them a little earlier.  We had decided that they would be our anniversary present to each other since we are at that point that we don’t know what we want anymore for presents….lol

Now we need to get covers for them.  I’m stressing on dropping them, especially since att doesn’t offer the repair insurance that has come in handy.  =(  We were also kind of worried about not having headsets for them, because our blue toothes are out of date for the iphone.  Didn’t realize until our friend told us that the headset that came with it, also had a mic……..lol  Which is nice, because when I go for walks I usually call family and was afraid of dropping the phone on the sidewalk.

This is the 1st time we changed carriers (been with sprint since June ’01)  and it was great that we got to keep our numbers.  I really didn’t want to go through that again…so annoying.

Today was kind of lazy day. After being busy yesterday, I was not in the mood for anything.  But at the same time felt restless.  So I did go out and did an errand and then went for a walk.

I was disappointed in this weekend weatherwise.  It could’ve been worse, but after last weekend it was a downer.  It got in the 50s yesterday and low 60s today.  We just really wanted a nice day so we can sit out on our deck/balcony and chill.

Here is hoping for a good workout tomorrow….especially since the treadmill smoked at me Friday….icks……lol
