13:44 Got some lunch in, now I need to work majorly.

19:22 Still playing catch up on work……

My Aunt

I’m here on the plane, just left PDX and on the way to Minneapolis for my connecting flight.  This isn’t how I had my weekend planned.  I spent yesterday packing and then trying to get as much work done as I could.  I found a dress for the funeral, I’m missing the wake today, but I didn’t have the needed slip or basic black heels.  My other heels got messed up from leaking sunscreen on the way by from Curacao.  So I had to spend time on getting those items.  I haven’t worn a slip in about 20yrs….don’t normally wear outfits that need them.

The only good thing about the load of stuff that I needed to do is that it keep my mind off of everything else.  I know that I’m going to be emotional wreck tomorrow.  So I’m trying to think of everything but.

I’m thankfully that my husband had been very supportive and there for me during this.  Been a big help for my focus.

My Aunt Evelyne was my paternal grandma’s sister.  When we moved to Indiana and I was driving, I would rarely find her at her house.  She was always traveling and volunteering, living life to the fullest.  When I did catch her, talk was about my studies and what I was going to do with it (my grandmother was the same on that…education was the most important thing) and my aunt would express how proud she was about her kids and their education.  And don’t forget basketball, she loved it and the Bulls.  Her husband use to play basketball back in HS and that is where she developed her love for it.

My aunt was a pistol and disagreed with my grandmother frequently…….lol  It was kind of funny, because they were so similar in their personalities…. BUT you never mentioned that to either of them….lol  Makes me wonder how my uncle and grandfather dealt with it.  They were best friends through HS and ended up marrying sisters that had their disagreements.  But my aunt was more down to earth then grandma.  I loved my grandma and really miss her, but she would put on “airs”.  Which she got from her mother and which my aunt rejected.

When I moved to Florida, I had more time and I would make up letters to send her of my blog entries.  I would increase the font to make it easier for her read, so it would be several pages long and I would have to send it in a packet envelope.  She loved them.  Recently I have been sending out holiday letters, so I know that she enjoyed those.  When visiting parks and new spots, I would send her postcards just to let her know that I was thinking of her.  She would try and send little notes on cards.  But I would tell her not to worry about it; she was having difficulty with writing and difficulty with her sight.  So I really enjoyed the notes and cards, but didn’t want her to struggle with it.  I just wanted her to know that she was in my thoughts.

Right after we moved to Florida we got hit with hurricanes and she called down to check on me.  =)

I won’t be getting into Indy until about 10pm, then an hour drive to my folks.  The funeral is at 9am in NW Indiana….so I’ll be getting up around 6am for the 2 hour drive.  I was stressing length of the drive, getting there in time and lack of sleep, but feel better because dad reminded me that they are an hour behind them.  So I can sleep in 30 more minutes and don’t rush as much.  But unfortunately I will be hitting rush hour around Lafayette and Crown Point.

I just joined facebook about 2 weeks ago, just so people from HS/college wanted to find me that they could…pretty much the same reason why I have a myspace…..well, I’ve heard from more people in the last 2 weeks then I have from having a myspace for the last 4-5yrs.  One of my old friends from HS wants to meet tomorrow since I’ll be in town.  I left her a message and my number.  =)

We are currently over the range in Montana….gorgeous.  I never get tired of the mountains.  With spending the first 7yrs of my life near mountains in Germany and the 4 yrs in Alaska, 5 yrs later….the mountains have always had my heart.

I had a bunch of work todo last night.  It was all the work that I was planning on doing Friday but didn’t get to.  A friend hit us up to see if we wanted to meet him for lunch and business and it has been awhile, so we decided to head into PDX.  We didn’t get to leave as early as we wanted because we had to have a business meeting.  It took longer than expected, but I think it went well and was very useful.

Due to getting into PDX later than planned we stayed even later since we didn’t want to get stuck in the Friday rush hour…yuck.  Makes a 25 min drive last 60+minutes.  But it was all good, got to hang with some of our friends.

I got some work done Friday night….but I didn’t have the needed focus.  So I was planning on spending Saturday on it and get a walk in.  Well, obviously that didn’t happen.  =(

I get back on Wednesday.  I was thinking of getting back on Tuesday, but we were worried about 3 days of constant travel would do to me.  Unfortunately, that only gives me 2 days at the gym.  =(  I was doing so good and was hoping to break my plateau, even though my drinks and meals where horrible on calories Friday.  You have to be constant if you want to achieve anything and that is what didn’t help me for Dec & Jan.   Maybe my constant traveling will help on the calories.

Well, my battery is about to die and I’m yawning.  Hopefully my layover is long enough to post this.

Unexpected Trip

Just heard from my mom this morning, my Great Aunt Evelyn died yesterday at the age of 92.  She was one of my favorites, so feisty, lived life to the fullest while she could, volunteered everywhere and was nice to everyone and you didn’t dare tell her this, but had some of the same traits of her sister, my grandma Curtis.

I’m flying out to Indy tomorrow, 300 compared to the 700-800 to fly into Chicago.  Funeral is Monday in Crown Point and I fly back on Wedesday.

Stunning Day

I should be working, haven’t done much of anything today….not good.  But screw it….being working nonstop for 5 days.

It is a stunningly beautiful day out here….sunny, in the 50s, we can see Mt Hood clearly…..I so love living here…..but it did start out windy as heck this morning.  Which put a wrench into our plans.  We were going to do small hikes in the area after the gym, but it was windy yesterday through this late afternoon.

It was bad last night.  We didn’t put out the recyclables and trash last week due to wind, since it was not AS strong and it we couldn’t wait another week, we put it out.  The trash & recyclable containers that WM supply have bungee cords on them to hold the lid close, so we thought we were good.  Well, the trash was fine, but that had 60# of cat litter to weight it down….the recyclables….not good at all.  Only after being out for 3hrs, we found the container 20ft down the road and open.  NONE of the recyclables were in there and we couldn’t find them any where.  There was so much papers,  magazines, cans, boxes, paper cups……I feel so guilty that our stuff has littered all over of the place, but we can’t find it at all.  The winds were a steady 25mph with gusts up to 35….so it is gone.

Since we didn’t go for our hike, I was going to get my nails done.  But the saloon is remodeling and it is taking a little longer then planned.  Hopefully, they will be able to get me in tomorrow.  Thinking of going for turquoise and hot pink.  Don’t wear my turquoises or greens much since we moved here, too many people think I’m a Duck fan……lol  I like the Ducks, but I will always be a Boilermaker 1st and a Big Ten supporter 2nd.  =) During football season, my nails are usually Purdue (& Saints) or Colts colors.  Do a lot of purples during off season.  =)

We had to disable the comments on my blog due to psychos who don’t understand freedom of speech…..get a life.  My blog isn’t for you anyway.

We finally found a place to get gyros……I haven’t had one since Florida…over a year and half.  We found them at a small cafe down the road, that serves the standard the cafe stuff, but the owner is Greek and offers them made with fresh ingredients.  They were excellent and came with some really good potato salad.

I’ve been looking for a local place for gyros since we got here, don’t want to head into PDX just for a gyro craving……lol In Florida, I use to get them from a Lebanese restaurant called Cedars Cafe the owner made excellent fresh food and refused to us the more modern appliances if she felt it ruined the food.  I went there so much, they just heard my voice on the phone and knew what I wanted and who I was.  =)  In Lafayette, Indiana, I loved going to Akropolis…..very authentic greek….but then sometimes when you went in there it was like a scene out of the My Big Fat Greek Wedding….the owner and family members would be around one the tables talking in greek.  =)  When I want ethnic food, I want to know that it is prepared by the people who know it and grew up on it….I want the accents unless they are generational americans.  Everytime I get ethnic food from a “white” person who did not grow up with it, it is horrible.

I spent the weekend working on payroll.  Of course, took time out for the Super Bowl…..grin  Harold was pulling more for the Cards, I the Steelers…but we would’ve been happy with either one.  We just wanted a good game.  And it actually was a good game….it is a NFL record….3-4yrs of good games.  =)  I hate blow outs and they bore the hell out of me.  The commercials weren’t very good this year, much better last year.  Springsteen did a great show and looked like they had a blast, which makes it much more enjoyable.

We finally got word from our property manager, the owner agreed to extending our lease to Feb 2012!  I love the fact that we won’t have to move for 3 yrs.  The owner is allowing us to paint the walls, within reason, without having to repaint them beige.  That is just relief.  We are getting too old to be moving all the time….especially now that we found a spot that we are happy with.

We are still getting use to being proud of our President.  It is so nice to say the President without cringing.  And we actually have a President that takes responsibility for his screw ups.   You sure didn’t hear it from Prince George…..Clinton never really took responsibility for his, neither did George HW and Reagan sure in hell didn’t.

I’m really tired of hearing about Palin….I wish she would drop of the face of the earth.  Totally makes Alaska look bad…..she is like a horrible accident that you can’t help but stop and look…..ggggrrr  You can add Cheney to that wish, just shut the hell up…at least Darth Vader had redeemable qualities……

The kittens are getting bigger and chunkier…..lol  They love getting into things and causing grief, but they are so damn cute…….grin..it is hard to yell at them.  Reggie and Drew love sleeping next to me.  They have 2 spots that they trade off on, one sleeps between my feet and the other next to me.  The females, Alexis & Sakura, don’t sleep with us very often.  Sakura normally sleeps on the small cat tree at the end of our bed and Alexis usually goes downstairs if she isn’t in the office.

We got more of our Boston Legal dvds from NetFlixs, so we will be watching those around our LOST  tonight….maybe I’ll get some work done while watching it.  =)
